Trademark Licensing

Coppin State University’s Trademark Licensing Program protects and strengthens the University’s brand by authorizing and overseeing the use of its name, logos, and other identifying marks.

All individuals, organizations, departments, and companies—whether affiliated with Coppin State University or external—must get advance approval before using any University indicia. This includes the University’s registered names, logos, and official color schemes.

Using Coppin State University’s Trademarks

Coppin State University departments and recognized student organizations must obtain prior approval before using the University’s name, marks, logos, seals, or symbols for any commercial or non-commercial purpose. All University-branded merchandise must be purchased from officially licensed vendors.

Merchandise intended for internal use—such as for office staff, group members, or giveaways—may qualify as royalty-exempt. Merchandise for resale, including fundraiser items, requires vendors to pay standard royalties to the University.

Our Licensing Partner

Coppin State University partners with Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) as its primary licensing agent. CLC supports the University by:

  • Managing the license application process
  • Executing licensing agreements
  • Promoting the Coppin State University brand to potential manufacturers
  • Monitoring the marketplace for unauthorized trademark use
  • Collecting royalty payments
  • Conducting compliance audits of licensed manufacturers

All manufacturers and vendors producing products that bear Coppin State University’s marks must be licensed through CLC.

How to Become Licensed
